For The ForestSymposiumPlace-Based Strategies: Pine Beetles & Forest Health - A Best Practices Symposium - December 17th, 2009 :: Hotel Jerome Ballroom :: Aspen, Colorado Learn about Mountain Pine Beetle and Forest Health Strategies used across the West. The symposium will feature an exchange of ideas and best practices by representatives from western communities working on mountain pine beetle mitigation efforts and wildfire reduction projects. Participants will explore what works and what doesn't in community forests and the wildland/urban interface. Explore innovative ideas from Canadian communities such as Merritt, BC and Grand Prairie, AB, along with several Colorado towns (see presenter list). Who Should Attend? Everyone is welcome - the symposium is free and open to the public (register now). The audience will include representatives from other towns & counties facing forest health challenges, as well as a wide variety of civic leaders, forest experts, landowners and ordinary citizens. Presenters Speakers include Colorado Governor Bill Ritter, USFS Rocky Mountain Regional Forester Rick Cables, and Under Secretary of Agriculture Harris Sherman (tentative). In addition, leaders from communities across the West will be presenting their own experience with forest health issues.
